That most recent song I posted, was the opening song of an anime series called ‘Elfen Lied‘.
I seldom talk about anime, and when I do, it must be good. The kind of good where you absolutely cannot sleep until you’ve watched the series to its conclusion otherwise you’ll suffer from insomnia and heartache just wondering what the hell is going to happen in the next episode.
Apart from the violence, nudity and adult themes, the most outstanding feature of this series is the artwork. See if anyone can spot where the inspiration comes from. Shouldn’t be hard, the artist was IS famous. No cheating by visiting the site I got these images from!

If you can get your hands on it, do. I guarantee laughter, tears, joy and heartbreak.

It’s nice to know that I’m not the only one who “studies for exams” by watching anime.
I think I must have went through ‘last EXILE’, ‘Noir’, ‘LAIN’, and even ‘Hikaru no Go’ during the week just before my midyears in Academic Year 2004. I “used” around 45 hours of study time that way.
Strangely enough, I obtained better results for my first semester subjects than I did for my second semester subjects. I studied a heap for the end of year exams too. Go figure. I knew I should have watched more anime. They really need to create an anime about lawyers though. Doctors (’Monter’), Teachers (’Great Teacher Onizuka’) and heck, even Programmers (’Battle Programmer Shirase’) are have some form of anime representation. That way, I might actually be able to spend my “study time” semi-productively.
And I agree. The opening visuals and musical score of Elfen Lied are absolutely astounding; spine-tinglingly, goosebump-inducingly good. Latin karaoke anyone?

Hi, welcome, and thanks for leaving comments!
Anime are the most evil inventions on this planet! They are the main reason why otaku students cannot study!
Gustav Klimt. Nice to have a tribute, but I hate the cut-and-paste.
Klimt - The Kiss and Danae - two of my favourites - the anime is beautiful too and in a non-defiling way which is not easy to achieve when you emulate or derive so much from influence. Nice!
I’ve seen many anime series and movies and this one quickly became my favorite. A story line that is actually gripping and touching at the same time and characters that you can feel for. I haven’t watched it with my girl yet but i think she would take the violence out of context and crapp on the movie ….but maybe not…. she’s never been big on it …she says it’s kids stuff :frustrated:
I need to locate this series on DVD in an English Dubbed/Subbed format …..really bad :help: .You would think that they would want to at least subtitle the dvd series for those who don’t speak Japanese. If you could get back to me and let me know what you thought of the Ending … or any other info please….I’d like to know …
Its been hard getting any kind of response or good info cause all the good Elfen Lied sites are Asian ….and i can’t read it
And i did lose lots of sleep sweating over the story line and characters??.. its has a very deep story when you really look into it ..and characters with real personalities ??To Love & Hate’??.. I obtained the full series before i started watching. The first episode was so ??off the hook’? i forced myself to watch only one episode a day. Then when i had finished the series I sat down and watched the full series back to back? once again ?.. A+++ ANIME ?a must see for ANY anime fan !
I can?t seem to give this series enough praise ?.. ? email me : TetsuoDark@gmail.com if you have any suggestions on good anime or need some yourself.
elfen lied rules,i love it
Best Anime i’ve ever seen nothing compares to Elfen Lied…. IT RULES OVER ALL!!!!!!
Elfen Lied is one of the most amazing animes I’ve ever stumbled upon, because it’s so raw, more than anything. It’s very visually stunning to the point where you just sit there with your mouth hanging open half the time while you’re watching it, and it’s hard to say who my favorite character is sometimes. The opening scenes of the first episode were enough to make me want to see the entire thing, and I hope that the creator makes many more animes that are equally impressive!
Good connection with the artwork by the way, I noticed it as well when I saw the opening for the first time.
elfen lied is like such a good show…even thouh the violence is not for younger viewers and nudity it is so good. and the theme song too and ending!
esmuy wena la serie ..soretodo la animacion y el sentido que tiene.. a mi me encanto y la recomiendoo…
Elfen Lied was the VERY first animie I had EVER watched! It was (putting it lightly as possible) THE GREATEST! The violence and gore was well done; didn’t bother me that much. Nudity didn’t bother me either. I think both elements added the sadistic environment Elfen Lied needed to create in creating whatever scene they were in, as a entirely seperate setting that could stand alone on it’s own!
Beautiful girls with horrible sides to them; brought out only when they’re provoked! The idea of the more than kind, sweet girls having horns and having that culturist racism factor was nothing short of pure intelligence! However, one could only celebrate when someone low enough to do that was torn in half with only a spec of a thought! It was getting back at people in a way we can only see (or imagine) in an animie flick.
Animation was wonderful! Characters were so well drawn and the emotion put into them was so astounding and REAL that you’d almost forget they’re animated! The re-watch value is wonderful because of that. Like you already know what going to happen if you’ve watched it once before, but it CONSTANTLY drags you in every time you watch it; I still feel the same shock of everything that happens no matter how many times I watch it!
The atmosphere created by the girls, Koata and his cousin, and the military gave a very vividly shocking impression of the movie by the time you’re done watching it. Like you’ve just been torn apart and put back together again yourself! You just don’t know what to ponder on after you’ve watched the film…..all you can say….well….the first thing that came out my mouth? COOL!!!!
Cliff hangers= BONUS!!! I rented the first volume out thinking the movie was on just one DVD (it was my first animie…I didn’t know they came in volumes). Like as soon as I got done watching it…..I was like WHOA!!! NO!!!!! I had to go and rent the other ones available! The cliff hangers will ALWAYS keep you coming back for more!
This is a cartoon that I wouldn’t mind seeing it put into a movie! That animie was THAT incredible of an experience! Down falls? Don’t watch this if it is your first time viewing an animie film. Why? Because all other don’t even BEGIN to compare to this!
I’m rooting for a sequal! It seemed a tad unfinished!
really brilliant this images… fantastic!
i love it
This anime is THE BEST anime I have ever seen. I only have vector one but I am very well hoping to get the others. Best Buy has the entire series (in English!) so I know where to get them,if only I had the money… I am only 14 but I know this is the top anime. The blood is detailed and the military deserves their deaths for locking up poor Lucy. I honestly like Nyu better because she is just so cute and innocent. This series is gripping, the story is well layed out, the characters has a complete and logical background that is not way out of proportion. You can get a feel for this anime, the voice acting is superb, you get a feel for the characters, you feel so traumatized at what they endure but also feel complete sympathy for them. The nudity is not really appealing, but the violence is, I mean, it just makes sense that they get their hearts blown out of their bodies than to just get whacked on the head. I just got done watching the four episodes I have, and it just keeps on pulling you into it. You only want to watch one episode a day, but when you sit there, you just stay with your mouth agape watching the entire series wondering, what is next? This is a must watch anime and I love it. (yay for animated blood)
Yes, i gotta agree that elfen lied is the best anime show ever!
I borrowed it from a friend and it was so cool. So because it was so good I had to get it my self. Just make sure when you buy this, that no americans have touched it, they wreck the whole show, with fog and blurred vision everytime a drop of blood leaves a vein, the japaneese version is better and of course only watch it with the japanese voices, not with the american voices.
So watch it in japanese with subtitles, or it won´t be worth shit, its boring to watch movies without subtitles, only kids wants dubed shit!
WOW, I just finished watching the last episode and all I can say is “holy crap”. Quite possibly the best anime I’ve seen - ever. The first scene where Lucy escapes and goes on a killing spree totally got my heart racing, and my eyes were glued to the screen as I watched all 14 episodes (which i impulisly bought that same day, heh). I was trly moved and even brought to tears once mostly at the plight of Lucy and Nana (and naniko), but the visuals are just so damned intense i couldn’t help it!
Badass soundtrack, fantastic animation, “adaquate” amount of blood and nudity - all the pieces to a very tasty elfen pie.
Oh, and Lucy definitley is my kinda woman (exepct the whole mass murder thing) - i’d totally marry her.
hey i luff elfen lied.
the episodes are great…
need to watch more though..
thanx to staci nad kat fer introducing me to this..
heck yesh..
