Singapore’s first political comedy podcast review

Use of technology 5/10

Not bad not bad, the first Singaporean political party to use podcasts to spread their message. But hang on, this is only a ‘podcast’ in the barest sense of the word. Where are the RSS feeds?

This is essentially a low-quality MP3 download masquerading as a ‘podcast’. I deducted marks cos ‘Show me the Money’ Chee ‘Guevara’ Soon Juan called it ‘internet radio’. *shudders*

Hipness ratio/Cool factor 2/10

Aiyoooooh!!! In the name of all that is good, please do not use such cheesy intro and outro music anymore! And that fade-in for dramatic ending effect for your outro! How 80’s can you be?!?! *dies* You can forget about recruiting ‘young people’, cos this party is just so not happening!

And the greatest irony is, despite ‘Show me the Money’ Chee ‘Guevara’ Soon Juan’s hysterical anti-PAP rantings, he’s actually the perfect poster boy for one of their biggest projects: the Speak Good English/Quash All Singlish campaign.

Just listen to that accent! So American! So British! So fake! That artificial blend of various tonal inflections provides the exact level of ambiguity as to whether he’s pretending to be either British or American. Or Inuit.

Content Value 6/10

Nevermind the obviously brainless rants and spittle-flecked spiels against the ruling party, the podcast is extremely funny and hilarious! Forget the crackpot economic policies, disgustingly nativist anti-foreigner stance which also patronizingly masquerades as concern for ‘vulnerable’ foreigners, and ‘Show me the Money’ Chee ‘Guevara’ Soon Juan’s mad passionate obsession with the PAP.

The tacky music, over-dramatization of the subject matter, the pompously self-important act. This podcast is an all-time classic in political comedy!

For a substantive analysis of the contents, watch out for my next post. ;)

Come on. The fact is, it is the first podcast of any sort by a politican (or politican wannabe).

Of course it’s amatuerish, because its is not done by a broadcast professional. Not that Mr Brown’s podcast is any better in terms of sound quality. (it dosen’t even have intro music). Listen to Mr Brown’s first podcast, and tell me if its not utter crap.

Although the content is oft-repeated by Chee, give credit where it is due. At least he was the first one.

Maybe we have to wait for upcoming podcasts to give a definite conclusion.

    lol… it is a good idea, though a little…

well put it this way, there are still a percentage of the voters who can’t speak proper english, would be more comfortable with their mother tongue and who has no access/doesn’t know how to or mere knowledge of how to access the internet.

those who bypass them, some feel terrified of them. at a certain lvl anyways.

    just my 2 cents :)

do u have to be such a geek and care that no RSS was used and thus not meant to be a podcast?
look at the bigger picture… no wonder pple call singaporeans stupid..
coz instead of caring abt the country, u are caring abt pple calling a non-qualifying podcast a “podcast”.

    get a life man!

    Politically Savvy Podcasts

Seems like I’m a late comer to the game.. I found a couple of other blogs commenting on RadioSDP’s inaugural podcast earlier in the month. Though everyone’s approach is unique.. there seems to be a consensus on its effectiveness.
