“Oh, life is a glorious cycle of song,
A medley of extemporanea;
And love is a thing that can never go wrong;
And I am Marie of Romania.” - Dorothy Parker
Why does Han have to be careful about what he wishes for? The soul-wrenching kind of love makes you feel more alive than you might have ever have felt. I mean, downside is that it might just kill you, but the risk for the chance to feel so alive is a chance so worth taking. =)
” We are only human, and the gods have fashioned us for love. That is our great glory, and our great tragedy”, A Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire Book 1
She held out her hand. What a strange world it is where you can have as much sex as you like but love is taboo. I’m talking about the real thing, the grand passion, which may not allow affection or convenience or happiness. The truth is that love smashes into your life like an ice floe, and even if your heart is built like the Titanic you go down. That’s the size of it, the immensity of it. It’s not propper, it’s not clean, it’s not containable. — Jeanette Winterson, “The Powerbook”
Believe me, you wouldn’t want to find true love. It is not only soul-wrenching, it’s heart-aching, suffocating, mind-tormenting every single living moment. I am experiencing it and there are times I wish that I would have the courage to end my life than to go on living with such mental pain.
It’s not so bad. You’re tough. I’m pretty sure you can live through the soul-wrenching sort of love.
Having lived through it and gone through the other side, all I can say is - it’s not a matter of taste, merely a matter of direction. Those who don’t have it may yearn for it, or not. Those who have it, may want it, or not. Those who had it before may regret having it, or not.
Ultimately, it’s not a question of what you feel. It’s a question of what significance you choose to give it.
Happen to chance upon this page and decided to leave a comment. “love” is just a word plucked from the sky to put on this experience. To each his own (experience), so there’s no defining boundaries to the degree of what it means. People can have overwhelming love for their cat (i know of such people), to the point that they can’t unrecover from its death.
So while we lament about the idea of “true love”, don’t forget about whats happening around us, and those who care so much for us. Is their love not true, too?

Actually, the way I see it, what you’re looking for only exists in anime where the characters are either not human or end up dead. Sorry!

@dawn: Everyone ends up dead in the end. No need to bash romanticism. That’s just rude.
