I don't understand why Singaporeans have to get so worked up and angst-filled when discussing about Singapore. We should just leave the government out of the discussion- they always leave us out whenever they want to toot their own horn right?

Singapore is doing great because of the PAP.
Singapore is doing lousy because of you people who don't want to do your part.

Let's just discuss politics without them! :D

Heh, a tinge of your collectivist upbringing there, but matters of personal importance is always higher than matters of national importance.

I mean, what's the point of a nice country when your girlfriend hates you, you're not speaking to your parents, or you're deciding what to eat for lunch (I'm just guessing that "matter of personal importance" there)

Actually i guess it takes time for change. It could even outlast the third generation. All that remains is to try and plant the seeds, and hopefully they will grow into trees. That takes time and Rome was not built in one day. Of course there is some heartache along the way, as per what Alfian Sa'at said about Singapore breaking your heart or something to that effect.

Though I don't exactly agree with Lostsomwhere, I do think that one does need a sense of distance to maintain one's sanity...

It's slightly depressing to note personally that once I started not to care as much, people began to comment on how much happier and calmer I seemed.

How 1984 *shudder*

That said, I have and still do appreciate your insights, cos what you talk about does go beyond mere bitching about issues covered by the Newpaper...

I understand how you feel. It's very much how I refuse to write about current affairs nowadays, even though I have some interesting new insights - I can't will myself to give more than a passing d*mn about the stuff.

Take care of yourself.

It is always important to voice out your views when you are required to do so. If you get disillusioned over one matter, think about those people who have been spending the past few years protesting over the Iraqi invasion in the UK. Those people made their point thru their votes in the end.

I support your decision to sort out the matter most important to you. You are right that nothing changes in Singapore, no we can't make a significant difference. Look at those who tried to make a difference with fire in their bellies. And those who rant and rave are doing exactly what Mr Miyagi said, banging their heads against the wall.
