A disgrace to YPAP
I totally sympathise with LKY and the rest of the PAP elders when they say that Singapore has a lack of talent. Just look at this piece by some dude named Nicholas Lazarus on the YPAP blog. Even better, check out his reply in the comment section:
Leaving aside my religious views on this matter, I am against any change of law/policy on homosexuals because:
1. They threaten the social fabric of the nation. Their ways represent an alternative for which we should not accept as being mainstream.
2. They cannot procreate and thus cannot produce offspring for our nation.
3. They cannot serve as soldiers because instead of serving alongside our men in green, they are more keen to sodomise them.
I do not accept the notion that homosexuals are “creative” and thus we need homosexuals to make our nation more “creative”. There is no evidence to suggest that homosexuals are any more or less creative than heterosexuals.
If an analysis is done, they seem to bring more problems than benefits.
Analysis? Since when has unthinkingly repeating borrowed lines constitute analysis?
If someone representing YPAP can be so abjectly devoid of any semblance of logical thought, then the rest of Singapore must be doomed. Quite simply, if a moron actually makes it to YPAP, then the average Singaporean must be a slack-jawed mouth-breathing drool-dripping inbred mutant.
With people like Nicholas Lazarus in the PAP, Singapore is doomed.
Young PAP Blog: The Alternative Vision for Singapore (and I mean Alternative!)
Update: On an interesting note, if you were to read the archives and scan through the posts by Nicholas Lazarus, you will find that this man is admirably consistent in his stupidity. In a modern day and age where most people fail to be steadfast and true, what more can we ask for than a man who adheres strictly and unthinkingly to a blinkered path? For great justice!

Another more interesting possibility is that YPAP does NOT recruit the best and brightest of our Singapore youths, one that indeed raises more questions than the terse write-off that you’ve given above.

perhaps my sarcasm is not obvious enough. but then again, if it was, then it wouldn’t be sarcasm.

The premise is predicated on the fact that YPAP members become members of the PAP. However it appears that YPAP are often not raised to the main PAP. Thus there is no worry that such jokers will have the chance to helm the country.

YPAP is the dumping ground used to weed out fools with pretensions of authority.

While this kind of moron may not get the chance to run the shop, it would be sufficiently disastrous for such as he to execute a top-down plan or even be a part of it.
It must have something to do with the genetic in-breeding of pap culture.

i naively thought he was offering an alternative argument (bad pun intended) in the post.
but his points in the comment section smacks of bigotry and were frankly shocking. even more so because he is a trained lawyer who ought to be able to ‘understand’ perspectives. yet he chose to express firmly a one-sided, almost prejudiced stand.

really? now THAT is a surprising piece of information. I could not tell that this person is a lawyer.
The lack of rigour and depth in his writing really casts aspersions on the quality of NUS law graduates, assuming that he is from NUS.

Leaving aside the obvious lack of logic, there is one thing Nicholas recognizes in his comment that we might learn I think a valuable lesson from. He said, rather imperviously, i think,
“I do not accept the notion that homosexuals are “creative” and thus we need homosexuals to make our nation more “creative”. There is no evidence to suggest that homosexuals are any more or less creative than heterosexuals.”
Any argument to remove the oppressive law against homosexuals cannot only and immediate turn to seeing homosexuals as a means to an end. It would merely turn the debate over to people like Nicholas who will argue that “certain people” serve limited purposes.
What I see, pessimistic me, is hence something darker than the lack of logic though. To treat people as means to some abstract end is a bad habit of some Singaporeans tend to adopt. If we refuse to see reality and see people as people, this is bound to happen and happen again.
And no point cursing law school or YPAP. I doubt these are places were such “opinions” can be “unlearnt” or “learnt” in.

good point. I happen to think that stupidity is as much influenced by genetics as sexual orientation… hahaha

Dan E,
I concur with your point. Should such notions permeate the top then Singapore society could be taking one more step back in the quest to become a more gracious society (if there be such a quest in the first place)
Han,
Well it is sad if he should hail from NUS Law school, but that said there are good people from there who do see this intolerance and try their darndest to fight it.
Ben,
Interesting comment there. It reminds me of the comment the JC student made during the seminar, that he must study hard so that he can contribute to the economy. Personally i found it a bit off.

Nicholas Lazarus was also the writer that tried to argue that his years of rigourous legal training made him deserving of the high compensation he got. You know, sort of like what the PAP uses to justify their salary hikes.

It is the Wee Shu Min virus which have infected PAP members, it seems.
It is called bigotry.
Sad.

“his points in the comment section smacks of bigotry and were frankly shocking. even more so because he is a trained lawyer who ought to be able to ‘understand’ perspectives. yet he chose to express firmly a one-sided, almost prejudiced stand.”
Wait, trained lawyers cannot express one-sided stands?
“there are good people from there who do see this intolerance and try their darndest to fight it. ”
One would have thought that the issue with lawyers is that they are trained and thus expected to be logical in their approach to any particular question and to write well enough to express that logic.
If the writing is bad, target the writing and lack of logic, and not the intolerant view. An intelligent, articulate person is exercising his right to be heard when he expresses his views, whether intolerant or not. If there is disagreement, then one can meet him on the point raised. On the other hand, if the writing is bad, whether the view is intolerant or not is a different matter altogether.
I am not speaking specifically about the subject person as I have not read what he has written.

No wonder you named your wedsite The Legal Janitor … Think of something better as it does not reflect well of your personal opinions or your usage of bombastic words such as bigotry (which your paragraphs were littered with).
I hope your inspirations does not align with your real job or career … wake up kids and start growing up!!!

This coming from someone who thinks “bigotry” is a bombastic word? It’s about as bombastic as “democracy”.
Priceless.

Forgive my ignorance, but I’m just wondering who the hell are the people behind that YPAP blog…or if it really is propitiatory of the YPAP??
Anyway, you’re right about one thing: the guy is terribly consistent in his stupidity. Good job!
