Singapore: The Last Bastion of Freedom
Some people are just fucking retards.
Despite my criticisms of the ruling party in the past, I’ve come round to the idea that Singapore is the closest possible incarnation to a libertarian state, in terms of what is politically and pragmatically feasible.
The USSA
Compare and contrast. The Congress of the United Socialist States of America are about to spend taxpayer’s money bailing out failed businesses that have no right to those taxpayer money. When the Bill to do so was rejected the first time round, I thought that sense had prevailed amongst the Members of Congress. Watching an additional 170 billion dollars being added to the package, I realise that it was not sense, but GREED that motivated the parasites.
All the lobbyists and special interest groups contacted their Congress critters to make a grab for a share of the pie. Anything that can be added to the bill for some group or other was added. It was a mass orgy of suckling at the teat of Washington D.C. The USSA will have to borrow money from foreign sources to finance the bailout, taking them deeper into debt. Unproductive assets mired in those failed banks will not be re-allocated to more productive uses. And continued involvement by the government in the operations of those banks will guarantee that Congress critters will have every opportunity to extend their influence and profit from that influence.
Cry me a river, motherfuckers
So the next time some whiney ass-licker from ToC or some other cry-myself-to-sleep blog complains again about Minister salaries in Singapore, I will tell them to go fuck themselves. There was this popular meme going around about how the PM of Singapore earns so much more than the President of the USA (its the USSA to you now assholes) or how our MPs earn more than the Members of Congress in the US. Well, now we know why don’t we. Congress critters profit immeasurably from their power and influence, and the corruption is endemic throughout the American political system.
I’d rather pay our Ministers and MPs tons of cash upfront, and have all that TRANSPARENCY and ACCOUNTABILITY, rather than have them try to weasel up goodies off the books from supplicants trying to garner government favour.
I’ve also heard another complaint, that if we’re paying Ministers so much, why aren’t they doing more? Here is the magic of why our government is so great. We’re paying them to do less! The less that government does, the less likely they’ll fuck things up. Seriously people, go read up your history books. When was the last time that any government did MORE, and resulted in a happy ending for the common man?
And to all those mouth-breathing morons saying that public service should not be about the money, why don’t you then quit your job and go help beggars or something? Can’t do it? I know. That’s cuz you are a dick and only know how to complain.
ISA? No, Gitmo, mofo!
Of course, I’m not saying Singapore is perfect. We still have the ISA, which the most best free country in the world, the USSA, doesn’t have…. oh fuck [USA PATRIOT Act].
Or how about the rumoured omnipresent surveillance that our government supposedly put normal Singaporeans through on a daily basis? Say no more! They got da FISA [FISA original][FISA extra crispy]! Hell, most major cities in “liberal western” countries are blanketed with CCTV cameras observing your every move!
Or how about random searches without probable cause [TSA]? Throughout all my times travelling in and out of Changi Airport, never have I been searched, and I can bet all the money I have in my bank account that 99.99% of travellers through Changi have not either.
Of course we have other monumentally retarded laws such as marital rape immunity or prohibitions against gay sex (no thanks to fucking religious fundamentalists like Focus on the Family or Gerald Giam), but those are otherwise tolerable incursions into personal sovereignty, when measured against worse intrusions perpetrated by the governments of other countries.
SG is not for you
In fact, it bothers me that the PAP seem to be pandering to the fucktards of the country, people like those in ToC. Toughen up bitches! You’re supposed to be hardasses who don’t take no bullshit, so what happened? Why are you bending over and listening to the crap shat out by people who supposedly care about Singapore, but are actually more interested in being invited to tea?
I say, Singapore is great! Low taxes, easy to start up your own business, low crime, authorities don’t hassle you unless you try to fuck things up. Seriously, what more can a libertarian ask for?
If you’re still not happy, gtfo. SG is not for you.
The Online Shitizen
Honestly, there’s a site out there that is quite a piece of shit. It is a cesspool around which the insane and the mentally unstabled congregate to pat each other on their backs (in the comments section) and slather a thin veneer of respectability onto each other.
Apart from one or two genuinely respectable persons, I find a few from that site to be rather unsavoury, one who is a stinking hypocrite masquerading as a reasonable person, another a fame-mongering power hungry scrub who fancies himself a future politician.
Those who desire power deserve it the least, and this particular person has the stench of desperation for power about him.
Given the quality of bullcrap published on that site, I wonder why the mainstream media would ironically seem to give them the respectability they do not deserve, when they have appeared to be resistant towards new media intrusion into their traditional domain.
Oh wait, the answer is plain. The mainstream media chose a stinking pile of crap to represent new media so that people will still find Shitty Times and Media Corpse to be trustworthy in comparison. oh lulz.
UPDATE: If you can understand the theme behind this blog, then you will understand why I detest ToC. <The Online Shitizen>
Legal Practice Notes No 1a
An addendum to the previous post, something which I meant to blog about but forgot to.
Perhaps I have been made soft by the legal culture here in Melbourne, but the conduct and communications here by and between lawyers have almost always been collegial and professional. Which leads me to this point:
A. There is no need to act like an asshole be rude.
I find the tone taken in the above letter to be unnecessary. Why be so condescending? It is possible to be polite and firm, without having to resort to sounding like a complete douchebag be unpleasant. And yet, this is precisely the tone taken in the above letter. Repeat after me: it is unprofessional to be rude.
Further, I am not the only one who has noted the amateurish approach taken by the firm which sent the letter above. Professor Ang Peng Hwa himself has noted:
Secondly, if they insist on their day in court, they should confine the issues to minimise any ’spillover’ effects. For example, they should not demand that the loser must run an advertisement in all the newspapers in Singapore to apologise.
As I pointed out in my previous post, any lawyer worth his or her salt and having some basic grasp of the workings of the internet would not have made that demand.
Edit: In retrospect, I have been overly harsh with my words. Even worse, I have fallen prey to the very thing I’m arguing against; I sounded like a complete douchebag. lol. I should take my own advice.
